Mulching

Mulching of beds is a great way of improving the soil structure, keeping the weeds down and retaining moisture within the soil.

We apply an organic compost to a depth of approx. 50mm to a typical bed. It is a good idea to re-apply once a year as over time the soil structure will greatly improve; the compost also provides a great canvas to show off your lovely plants!

Other effective mulches include, bark chippings, cobbles of varying sizes, slate, pea shingle. If a membrane is installed under the mulch then the weeding will be further reduced
